Concept and Form
About the Work
A small house sits on the turtle’s shell. Slava first imagined it as a more enclosed structure and considered several possible forms. After a suggestion from ceramics instructor Yuliia Kopylova, he revised the design, making the house more open and airy.

Class Context
Where the Work Was Made
The work was made during ceramics and pottery classes at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth, under the guidance of Yuliia Kopylova.

Building the Form
Hollow Shell and Joining the Parts
The shell was built hollow so that the wet clay would not place too much weight on the legs and the overall form. Separate parts were joined with slip — a liquid mixture of clay and water used to bond clay pieces.
